Lian Meijaard is a Dutch artist working in a diverse range of disciplines.
She works by intuition but she's always overthinking it. That’s one of the reasons she didn't make anything for more than 20 years. Other reasons are her self-doubt and probably a mix of insecurity and misplaced perfectionisme.
She moved to a quiet neighborhood, got a job and two children but still she wanted to make things and the ideas kept coming. She concluded she couldn't help it.
So there were lots of ideas and plans but still not getting much done. She should take to heart the famous letter from Soll LeWitt to EvaHesse: Just DO!

Trying to change this, she made this website and wants to make a new start. She is making objects and just made her first publication.

When she was younger she made installiontions about the use and function of art and objects and usefulness/ meaningfulness in general. Lately she's been making objects that seem to have a function, but they don't. But the questions remains. And always a love for absurdism and animisme.

Finally, a moving statement that she is still proud of from her teacher at the art academy. He wrote when she graduated:
"The humble sincerity that the work shows and the disarming attitude that can be experienced from it make it something special."
